Verizon Data Plan = $$$$$

Is it me or is Verizon's Voice/Data plan just...ridiculously expensive?

450 talk minutes + unlimited email = $79.99
450 talk minutes + unlimited email + unlimited messaging = $99.99

So if I wanted a SmartPhone or a BBerry from Verizon, those are the minimum monthly's I'm looking at.

In contrast, AT&T's iPhone (which I have and hate to death), is only $59.99/month for unlimited data (email, chat, etc) and 400min voice.

+$20/mo for a BBerry on Verizon..sigh..Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet. The new BBerry Pearl 8130 from VZ is looking nice. So is the LG VX10000 "Voyager".

Russell Brown's Gravatar My blackberry costs a lot compared to my girlfriends Motorola Q. I think my data cost is 3x what hers does...

Gotta love the forced extra cost to use RIMs servers I guess?? I don't even use blackberry email, the device is just better...

Ken Auenson's Gravatar I used to have Verizon with a data plan and now I have AT&T, as it is a bit cheaper...
I think they are *all* way overpriced.
You really are comparing apples and oranges, tho.
The data plan on AT&T for PDA phones is actually $45 and the 450 minute voice plan is $40 so the total for 450 mins with unlimited data on AT&T is actually $85 for all other smart phones.
The data plan for the iPhone is probably cheaper due to it only running on AT&T's slower data network and because they knew they would get a lot more customers for the iPhone if they had a cheaper price point for the data plan.
It actually upsets me that AT&T gives the iPhone a discounted data rate.
Doesn't seem very fair to me!
Oh, and Verizon's network coverage was better, IMHO.

Mike Rankin's Gravatar All of the rate plans are blatant lies anyway. As far as I can tell, all of the phone companies have lots of little (and not so little) fees and taxes that they tack on. None of those fees or taxes are assessed on the customer of the phone companies. It's no different than if they had put a line item on your bill for their income taxes or office furniture. It's false advertising, plain and simple.

Dan L's Gravatar Sprint is only $15 a month for unlimited EVDO data...
It's a little more expensive for Blackberries versus Smartphones though, I guess because only wealthy people use Blackberries. ;-)
