Jobs: CF vs PHP = very disconcerting

Looking through posted jobs on multiple job boards has gotten me a bit depressed.

There looks to be 100 PHP jobs for every 1 CF job. Not saying I shouldn't learn PHP, but I guess its more of a sign of the popularity of CF. There is none :(

Alfio Raymond's Gravatar learn the php syntax and then get in somewhere good and then show them how good CF is on a standalone machine compared to php. Instead of paying for developers for php they could be paying less developers and be able to afford the cf server cost. Good plan of attack to promote CF.

Peter Boughton's Gravatar And for every 1 PHP job, there are a 100+ supermarket jobs.

If you're looking for a CF job, then look at the CF community - Ben Forta often posts positions, and there's the cfjobs list on House of Fusion, to name just two places.

Adrian J. Moreno's Gravatar I see at least 10 new CF jobs posted every week. More often then not, they're at much larger clients than the PHP jobs I see posted. At my company, I was 1 of 2 CF devs hired 3 months ago and we're getting ready to hire 4 more.

The jobs are there, you just need to look in the right places. :) Good luck.

larry c. lyons's Gravatar Actually depending on where you are, there are plenty of CF related jobs. In my region, Northern Virginia, there are a lot of cf related jobs available. Similarly the Carolinas, Chicago area and the west coast all have lots of cf related postings. You just have to look.

none's Gravatar Yes, it does seem to be very hit and miss when it comes to location. I had a former co-worker that looked for a job for 2 years in the Madison, Wi area with out luck. He finally got a Job about 90 miles away, that he now drives every day.

Now I am in the same boat. Looking for a CF job in Madison, Wi now for 1 year.

chris's Gravatar I am in the same boat as 'none'. Out here in the bay area it seems that CF has few in roads into corps. Its heavily LAMPed out here. Startups love ruby and php here in silicon valley. Guess that's a sign for me to learn something new..or move haha

Toonses the Cat's Gravatar Oh boo hoo.... Coldfusion sucks balls, and if Adobe ever goes under or gets bought out or just decides they don't want to support it anymore - you're F|_|CKED!

have a nice life loser.

Tony Garcia's Gravatar @Toonses
You're an idiot. Even if your highly unlikely scenario comes to pass. Adobe CF isn't the only CFML engine in town. Open BlueDragon and Railo (which will soon be released as an open source JBoss project) art two very capable alternative CFML engines. Morons like you have been sounding the death knell of ColdFusion for years and meanwhile the options for CF programmers have only grown.
